2026 Gardening Club Annual Meeting

Notice of the 2026 South Bristol Gardening Club annual meeting

Our annual meeting will take place on Wednesday 4 February 2026, 7.30pm at St Paul’s Chuch. The meeting will include a review of 2025, a report on club finances, the appointment of our steering group members and details of our 2026 speakers and visits will be announced. There will also be a short talk.

Steering group members

Each year the club must appoint a steering group. We have a very small but dedicated team of Matthew Symonds, Sarah Slade, Alice Davies-Avery and Jenny O’Neal, with additional support from Elaine Beckett and Jenny Bhambri- Lyte. It isn’t an onerous job being on the steering group. More steering group members are welcomed to help. Please consider standing for the steering group.

In line with the club constitution, nominations must be received by 31 December 2025.

Who does what?

Club secretary

The secretary organises the meetings, books rooms, arranges speakers and communicates with members. As current secretary I’m willing to continue in 2025.

Club organiser 

The organiser does the practical things such as contact speakers in advance to make sure everything is still ok for them. We haven’t had a club organiser since 2023, so the secretary has been carrying out this role – but an extra person to help would be great!

Treasurer

The treasure keeps any eye on the club accounts, can arrange payments for bills and looks after the petty cash. We use online banking at Nat West so it’s helpful for the

treasurer to have an internet enabled device. The current treasurer (Jenny) has indicated she is willing to continue as treasurer in 2025).

Steering group members

Steering group members help with the little things such as setting up the room, selling raffle tickets and advising on all things to do with running the club. They also support the secretary, club organiser and treasurer.

Refreshment team

This is a new role but probably the most important! This team will help prepare and serve the drinks, ensure we have cake/biscuits (inc gluten free/vegan option) and help clear up after the meeting. Having 2-3 people who can help with this regularly would be helpful.
