South Bristol Gardening Club is not a big gardening club, (we only have just over 50 members) but we pride ourselves on being one of the friendliest! Our meetings and visits are open to non-members, and our after-talk tea and cake is a lovely time to get to know each other. For a small (as well as relatively new club) we do put on a wide range of varied talks and visits throughout the year. Gardening club wouldn’t happen at all if it weren’t for our small and enthusiastic steering group who volunteer their time between meetings to ensure rooms and speakers are booked, that the tea, cake and raffle prize is organised, our bills are paid and – not least – that everyone is informed about the upcoming meeting. At our annual meeting on Wednesday 7 February we’re looking to recruit more people to join our steering group to ensure.
Who does what?
Club secretary
The secretary organises the meetings, books rooms, arranges speakers and communicates with members. The current secretary has indicated they are willing to continue.
Club organiser
The organiser does the practical things such as contact speakers in advance to make sure everything is still ok for them. The organiser also coordinates the tea and cake rota.
Treasurer
The treasure keeps any eye on the club accounts, can arrange payments for bills and looks after the petty cash. We use online banking at Nat West so it’s helpful for the treasurer to have an internet enabled device.
Steering group members
Steering group members help with the little things such as setting up the room, selling raffle tickets and advising on all things to do with running the club.
If you’re interested in being part of the steering group, let us know by the end of December 2023 so that we ensure nominations are made in line with our club constitution ahead of our February 2024 annual general meeting, email: southbristolgardeningclub@gmail.com
