May 2016
What a busy month May has been!
Our club night was a really good one with Sara Venn speaking telling us about the Incredible Edible program and the Get Growing garden trail. Having started Incredible Edible Bristol 3 years ago it really has gone from strength to strength from the first garden where a tiny patch of land had to be cleared of 14 bags of rubbish before starting to the Castle Park garden which had interest from the likes of Bob Flowerdew and Pippa Greenwood.
The principles behind the community gardens Sara supports to set up are to bring people together to produce food for anyone to help themselves to. The approach is very much to get the community to drive the projects forward and working with them to make a successful space.
Incredible Edible also provides support for educators and has a schools program to get schools growing with the pupils.
The garden trail all links together to make a trail that you can follow, and one the 4th and 5th of June there is an event called the Get Growing Garden Trail where you can visit loads of the gardens and see whats been going on.
With so much going on its worth looking at their website to find out more and see if there is something near to you that you can get involved with.
As well as a great club night we had a wonderfully successful plant sale at the tobacco factory. Thank you to everyone that grew, donated plants and time, talked to the public, sold plants, provided cakes, and got involved! We raised a fantastic £436 for the club coffers which is amazing!
Next club night is looking good as well with Richard Cripps, a well respected expert in his field coming to tell us all about pest and diseases in the garden and hopefully to answer all our questions on our garden foes!
See you next month
The Team.
